Philosophy

The Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle (PCCS) was established in 2009 as an advanced and highly dedicated center for prostate cancer treatments using radioactive seed technology.  It is a world leader in Brachytherapy/Brachysurgery*.  Brachytherapy , also known as seed implantation or Brachysurgery is any procedure in which a source of radioactive material is placed near a tumor. The implantation of radioactive seeds for prostate cancer is a form of brachysurgery in which the seeds are placed into the prostate. The seeds emit low energy radiation in order to kill cancer cells inside and immediately surrounding the prostate.    The Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle team began their mission pioneering prostate cancer seed implantation at the Northwest Tumor Institute in 1985 and the Seattle Prostate Institute in 1997, which it continues at PCCS. today The team is dedicated to research, high quality care and the latest technology for primary and recurrent prostate cancer treatment. We continue to strive to be the world’s leaders in prostate cancer  treatment.

The philosophy of the Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle is simply to provide the best information, technology and care to insure the best outcome and quality of life for each individual patient.  The physicians have extensive experience in prostate brachytherapy and brachysurgery (>38 years) and are recognized leaders in their field . Equally important, our entire team is dedicated to caring for each patient as if they were relatives. We believe each patient should enjoy the best outcome and the best quality of life and have the best individual information regardless of their treatment option. Patients are assessed for their overall health, quality of life and social situation and how treatment may affect these. We believe that each man’s treatment must be individualized and it is his choice. These choices may include brachysurgery ( brachytherapy) , external beam radiation, hormone therapy, watchful waiting, surgery or a combination of these. We want each patient to know that their choice is based on sound scientific information from all reliable sources.

Our philosophy means that we will respect your time, and that we will answer all of your questions to the best of our ability. After your treatment, we will continue to assist you and follow your progress. We continue to see patients in follow-up that we treated over 20 years ago.
