Physicians & Staff

Our physicians are recognized world experts in prostate cancer. They pioneered seed implantation for prostate cancer in the United States and are responsible for training many if not most  of the physicians performing seed implantation today. The nursing, dosimetry and administrative staff from the Seattle Prostate Institute joined the PCCS team and have 10-20 years experience treating and managing prostate cancer treatment.

Peter Grimm, DO

Dr. Grimm is the Executive Director of the Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle (PCCS). He is Board Certified* in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology. He is also the former medical director and co-founder of the Seattle Prostate Institute. In 1985, he along with John Blasko and John Sylvester, pioneered prostate implantation as it is performed today. Since that time, he has treated more than 4,500 patients. He has trained more than 6,000 physicians, nurses and physicists and traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad providing research information, training and support.

Dr Grimm also leads The Prostate Cancer Results Study Group, a group of experts dedicated to providing unbiased treatment results, and is the President of the Prostate Cancer Treatment Research Foundation which supports this work

Dr. Grimm has been instrumental in the technical aspects of seed implantation and has patents on needle design, diagnostic tools and seed technology. He has been closely involved in the development of the current implant needle as well as Source Link, Rapid Strand and Thin Strand technologies. he is currently working with the implant planning companies to develop more sophisticated planning tools

He is intensely interested in quality assurance, both at PCCS and other centers. He is the CEO of ProQura, a business that provides quality assurance and dosimetry planning services to brachytherapy centers worldwide. He has more than 80 publications in the field of seed implantation and is one of the lead editors of the book The Prostate Cancer Treatment Book.

He is currently on the Medical School Board of the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences and the board of Long Live the Kings, a civic organization dedicated to preserving wild salmon. He has also served on Medicare’s Practicing Physicians Advisory Board.

In 2009, he received the American Brachytherapy Society Presidents Award, honoring his outstanding contributions to the field of Brachytherapy. Dr. Grimm received his medical education at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and his graduate training in radiation oncology at UCLA.

Dr. Grimm has a son Justin, an IT specialist at the University of Washington and a daughter Robyn Vera, DO, practicing  Radiation Oncology in Olympia Washington.

James Gasparich , MD  Urology- Associate Physician

Seattle Urologic Associates

Dr Gasparich graduated from the University of Chicago and did a residency in Urology at the University of Washington and is Board Certified* in Urology He has been performing seed implantation our center physicians for over 20 years.

Dr. Gasparich was voted “Top Doctors” in Seattle Metropolitan Magazine (2012)

Named as one of “America’s Top Urologists” by the Consumer’s Research Council of America

Joseph Bradlo, RN

Joe has replaced Sheila Kaufman as the center’s primary nurse.  He brings over 20 years of progressive health care experience to the Prostate Cancer Center including performing duties as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman at various duty stations on land and at sea. He has dedicated over 10 years as Medical Technologist and Laboratory Supervisor at university hospitals, trauma centers and clinics in Illinois, Missouri, Texas and California. Joe broadened his scope in health care with an extensive and impressive career in medical marketing and new product development bringing several innovative products into the medical community. He returned recently to the patient care environment by earning his nursing degree and now pursues a career in oncology nursing. Joe is a conscientious and caring nursing professional totally committed to delivering holistic care and patient education as a prostate cancer nurse navigator.

Devi Naidoo, BS, RT(T,R,NM), Chief Dosimetrist

Ms. Naidoo is considered one of the world’s experts in prostate brachytherapy planning. She has been a Radiation Therapist for 30 years, beginning her initial training at UCLA and Princess Margaret Hospitals in Toronto. She has been a Clinical Instructor for Student Radiation Therapists for 10 years. She has performed prostate cancer dosimetry exclusively for over 11 years and has performed over 15,000 permanent seed implant plans. She joined the Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle in July 2009 after working with Drs. Grimm, Sylvester and Blasko for over 11 years at the Seattle Prostate Institute.

Mary Schotanus, Clinic Coordinator

Mary started as the Radiation Receptionist at the First Hill Campus of the Swedish Medical Center Tumor Institute in March 1989. She became the Lead Patient Care Coordinator in 1993 at the newly formed Northwest Tumor Institute to work for Drs. Grimm, Sylvester and Blasko. In 1997, she was selected to be the clinic coordinator at the Seattle Prostate Institute at the Swedish First Hill campus for Drs. Grimm, Blasko and Sylvester. She assumed her current role as clinic coordinator at the Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle in July of 2009. Mary has dedicated her career to excellence in patient care and developing a world class brachytherapy program and team.

Fred Owen  Executive Director Prostate Cancer  Foundation

Mr Owen has recently assumed a new position executive Director of the Prostate Cancer Center Foundation  Fred  is currently senior application design / partner at Management Information Tools in Seattle. His focus and experience has been in developing has been in developing   management information systems and ��processes His current role as executive director will be to further expand hte efforts of the foundation to further the research effort to provide comprehensive information from the Prostate Cancer results Study Group to more patients physicians and policy makers around the world

Lisa Grimm,  Prostate Cancer Center Foundation /Research Coordinator

Lisa assumed the role of research coordinator for the Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle  in 2010. Prior to that, she was a research assistant and coordinator with the Pacific Ovarian Cancer Research Consortium at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle for 5 years. Lisa obtained her bachelors’ degree from Washington State University, and is the wife of Dr. Grimm�����s nephew.

Lisa’s current responsibilities include coordinating research activities at the Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle, as well as overseeing the the Prostate Cancer Treatment Center Foundation.

Brittney Grimsley, Patient Care Coordinator

Brittney joined our team early 2012 and serves the office as our Patient Care Coordinator. Prior to joining the Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle, she was attending pre nursing classes at Edmonds Community College. Brittney enjoys working in the medical field while providing Dr. Grimm’s patients with superior care and assistance.

Sheila Kaufman, RN

KaufmanMs. Kaufman  recently retired after working 17 years with Dr. Grimm. She received her diploma in nursing from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 1970 and continued pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Akron in 1987. She worked at the University of Washington Cancer Center for 9 years (1989-1998) in the outpatient cancer treatment center, including 18 months with the Prostate Brachytherapy program. Her career has been dedicated to Prostate Brachytherapy since 1997, working at the University of Washington program in 1997-1998 and at the Seattle Prostate Institute from 1998-2009. She has one son. She currently acts as a consultant to the center.[hr

The Prostate Cancer Center of Seattle is focused on providing our patients with the most comprehensive care available. This includes our adjunct team of  team highly experienced radiation oncologists, associate urologists, anesthesiologists, medical physicists, radiology technologists, nurses, medical and research assistants and insurance professionals in the Seattle area. It is the goal of our entire team to provide you with the information, education and support that you need during each visit with us. During office hours, helpful professionals always answer our phones, not automated answering machines. Our physicians give patients their cell phone numbers so that they can be reached 24 hours a day for questions or concerns.

* Board Certification: Upon completion of Residency, physicians are required to take both written and orals exams in order to be “Board Certified���. For radiation oncologists, the body administering the exams is the American Board of Radiology.
